Imagine finding yourself sitting at the edge of a pristine alpine lake, dining a hot gourmet meal, camping high above the crowds, 20 miles from any dirt road, deep in the mountains, and the only way to get there was by foot. You did not haul a 50 pound backpack up hill for 2 days ...you took a pack horse up! Guided tours like these are popular in the California mountains, especially the Sierra Nevada mountains. Snow doesn't start really melting until May, so the active season is a short (3 month window) for this type of recreation. Don't lag too long if you really wanna go. The companies offer specials, hot springs trips, backcountry camping, as well as High Sierra fishing packages.
