You may be thinking, if you are "heading to the mountains, why bring wood?" But most Southern California regions do not allow you to collect wood or have very little down wood to be found.
The more people that head to the forest for their weekend camping trips, the tougher the rules get & finding wood in the wilderness spots can be a pretty rough job.
National Parks will not allow you to cut firewood or even gather down wood. You must bring your own firewood or buy theirs.
