Campgrounds
Only one campground get our approval. Far western North Rim
area. One of the most remote areas in Arizona & the United
States, in fact. SUV or 4x4 recommended for the 60 mi. washboard
dirt road that leads up to this site. It is a journey getting
there, plan on it taking a good portion of the day. But it is
well worth the trouble for the ultimate in seclusion & a fabulous
view.

[
located right on edge of Grand Canyon Rim, extremely remote area
with great views of Colorado River 3000 feet below]
Hwy.389, Fredonia 9 mi. west, near mile marker #24.5, long -ass
dirt road 60 mi. to the campground at the very end. |
Most campgrounds on either the North or South Rim have
well over 50 campsites. Best remote camping options are in the
surrounding areas: Kaibab NF
Primitive Camping
North Rim - Kaibab NF has plenty of dirt roads for exploring
& primitive car camping.
Hiking
Many of the trails in the canyon are used by mules & horses
which can end up being a messy, stinky experience. Look in the
park guides given at the entrance for which paths to avoid.
