wildflowers Wine Country southern sierra
sierra wildflowers.
From the rolling oak hillsides of Tollhouse Rd near Clovis to the high plateaus of the Eastern Sierra neighboring Bishop & Bridgeport, the Sierra's are bursting with colors. The above average rain season has produced tons of wildflowers & these will persists as the temperatures rise, go up in elevation & find more wildflower meadows than ever before. statewide. Snow melt is happening now with warm weather, but some dirt roads may still be impassible this early in the season.
rivers flow, raft it now.
The are few years when Cali's reservoirs are full & rivers are flowing at max. This year is the exception! If you've always wanted to try out a mellow day float on a river, or feel the need to take on new adventure, then river rafting may be the outdoor recreation for you. This year in particular is prime time for white water action. Many National Forest offer camping closeby & river guides are reserving tours now for the warming months.
If not, try a leisurely houseboat rental w/ friends.
kernville california.
This is the adventure capital of Sierra recreation on the SoCal side. The Kern, the closest big river to Los Angeles, is the main attraction, along with the Giant Sequoias & Lake Isabella. This place draws in the river rafters, kayakers, fishermen, mountain bikers, family campers with RVs & even the yuppie harley riders. Stop by for lunch, while passing thru on your way to the high country. Region is the Sequoia NF & Mojave's Inyo NF, so be very careful with your campfires.
