Autumn's cool temperatures are perfect for a weekend away on the California Central Coast. The San Luis Obispo region offers everything from ocean kayaking to wine tasting. The coastal cuisine in small town villages can be remarkably good. Central coast HIghway 101 is the main thoroughfare. Destinations include anything from Santa Barbara north to Monterey. Hearst Castle, Cambria, Santa Cruz & the amazing Big Sur Coast . Places of interest are Montana de Oro, Morro Bay, Pinnacles & Wineries.

Been itching to get that SUV on a dirt road? Well dude, you don't need 4-wheel drive for everything. Take a scenic drive to your NF. Or try some of the finest dirt roads in the Big Sur region, with Big Sur Backroads, which include most of the Prewitt Ridge. There's plenty excellent scenery to see on the graded dirt roads where dirt bumps will be minimal. Just remember to carry a good spare tire & emergency blankets on all your back road expeditions. Limekiln SP is a nice day stop for a picnic at the waters edge.
