The majestic peaks of this Northern California wilderness will have your jaw dropping from the first sight off the freeway, as you climb the interstate outta Redding. Hike, bike, raft & fish the many waterways of Shasta-Trinity National Forest. From Whiskeytown Reservoir to the Trinity River there is something for everyone. Backpack Mount Shasta, hike the waterfalls, kayak the lakes. Plenty houseboat rentals at Lake Shasta & great RV camping on Trinity Lake.
markleeville
Tucked back in the Sierra mountains, south of Tahoe & well off Highway 395 is the cute-as-a-button town of Markleeville. Centrally located for winter & summer recreation, this Eastern Sierra destination is close to Grover Hot Springs & the sanctuary of Sorensens Cabin Resort. At this high elevation town, you can mountain bike, fish nearby creeks, hike to prestine lakes & get some much-needed rest. Way out here in the boonies, where your boss cannot find you.

Due east of Fresno, Highway 168 winds it's way up the Sierra's to the community of Shaver Lake & eventually Huntington Lake. But if you get a wild hair & decide to take a right turn at the Shaver post office, you will find you way thru lush meadows, the Sequoia grove of McKinley & ultimately at the granite delight of Wishon Reservoir. Continue north to find the granite dome lands of Courtright Reservoir, trailhead to "The Dusy" OHV route & access to the Ansel Adams Wilderness.
