According to 15th century Spanish myth, Calafia was the name of a queen who reigned over an island named California. Named after this strong, mysterious woman, the Calafia Resort has become a symbol of hospitality in the Baja peninsula.
Calafia has the only Baja theme park. It displays a wide variety of archaeological replicas form Mesodermic cultures, and California Missions as well as replicas of rupestrian cave paintings and a Spanish fort with a galleon dating from the 16th Century.
So needless to say, this place is kinda a mini tourist trap. It is not uncommon to see tour buses here.
