If you are imagining a tree lined alpine lake near Palomar Mountain, this is not it. It is a country meadow setting near ranches & very open terrain. Perfect for stargazing. Henshaw is the nearest body of water to Palomar & is on Hwy.76, but it is quite the contrast to the pine topped mountain nearby.

Lake Henshaw has large open spaces & fields surrounding it. Cattle grazing & fisherman cabins is more the desciption.
