By far one of the best viewing areas for native California desert flora in the whole state. Autumn rain amounts determine the next year’s Spring bloom. If it rained real good all over SoCal before New Years Eve, chances are better for a favorable showing of color.
Low elevations, washes, badlands, dry lake beds bloom first in February, followed by March for mid altitude canyons and mountains. Highest desert peaks may not bloom until May.
Some of Total Escape favorite spots include:
S-2 Great Stagecoach Route of 1849
Anza Borrego Desert State Park
Anza Ranger 760-767-5311
April is usually the best month for the wildflowers; it is also the prime time for Spring Break camping. Open car camping for free – all over this huge California State Park. The tourists typically head over to the town of Borrego Springs, to Borrego Palm Canyon and the visitors center; but the REAL wildflowers are along remote stretches of highway, and on the DIRT BACK ROADS. Many roads are passenger car accessible, for at least the first mile, so don’t think you must have a 4×4 vehicle for just simple exploring.
Conscious Life Expo
Annual event: February
Los Angeles, CA
13+ years running. Live music all 3 days.
- film festival
- live music
- gourmet foods
We live in an evolving universe, in an orgasmic nuclear dance of consciousness. Everything is changing, evolving, transforming. Wise men and women throughout history have tried to define the nature of the reality in which they found themselves. Myriad models have existed- most have fallen into the historical garbage heap, others cling by threads. We, these generations, are creating a new model.
The primary intention of the Conscious Life Conference and Exposition is simple: to participate in the conscious co-creation of a new world, a world based on new paradigms in science, in spirituality, in longevity, in local and global community, in relationship, in health and well-being.
The Expo is to bring us all together. It is a 3 day gathering of the tribes, a celebration of evolution and consciousness and a time to meet and do brainstorming sessions on who we are, where we are and where we are going.
Sonoma Valley Olive Festival
Celebrating the Season of the Olive
Less than an hours drive north of San Francisco, Sonoma is the most-down-to-earth slice of heaven around, its lush farmlands, rolling vineyards and historic towns lost in a time all their own. Given our Mediterranean climate and rich agricultural roots, our culinary and wine-making legacy, our bohemian artists and small artisan food producers, we can’t think of a better place to “all hail the olive.”
The vibrant heart of old Sonoma–the historic Mission, the Sonoma Barracks and tree-lined Plaza–provides a central backdrop for key Olive Season events. For more than a century, local olive and grape harvests have been blessed and celebrated in this location, and we’re happy to carry on the tradition.
Annual event; two months long, January & February
