
- Highway 178 leads east up the mighty Kern River to Lake Isabella and then down eastern side of the Sierras to the north Mojave desert. Kernville is a small western style town with plenty of lodging options, located on the north side of the lake. Tons of activities nearby can be found through our Kernville page.
- Drive north along the river and turn right on Sherman Pass Rd. Check road closure - Snow is quiet possible. Kennedy Meadows has one small lodge with horseback riding.
- The return trip east via road #J41 to Hwy.395, puts your close to Fossil Falls, a must see side trip. Stay a night in the deserts unforgettable Randsburg bed & breakfast. Taking Hwy 178 west back over the mountains, you will pass Joshua trees plus mountain meadows.
