rules of the back country
:
who's who -
Know how many participants you have, who is the leader of the
caravan and who is tail gunner.
Always keep the vehicle behind you in your rear view mirror.
No one gets left behind & it keeps the group together.
If you need a 'spotter' for a difficult section of road, please
do not hesitate to ask for one.
preserve -
Stay on the trails! We are losing miles & miles of dirt roads
every year due to closures from recent wilderness acts. The most
important thing we can do to keep our trails open is to stay
on the trail. The single act that we can do to hurt our freedom
is to wander / play off the roads, damaging fragile habitats
for plants & animals.
garbage & waste -
Pack out as much as you pack in. Have an additional plastic bag
handy at all times & please collect found litter.
Cigarettes butts are to be disposed of in an ashtray or in an
enclosed container.
bathroom breaks - Grab a shovel, find a secluded spot,
and dig a 'cathole' for your own waste, 8-12 inches deep. Do
not bury toilet paper, as it will get dug up by animals or washed
up in a sandy desert canyon. Baby wipes & a small trash bag
are very useful. The cleaner we keep the back country, the more
likely we are to retain access to them.
camp etiquette
:
We are all out here to forget the daily stresses of everyday
life.
Please be on your best behavior; Offer a helping hand; Be polite
to all camping pals
No bickering or bitching; No 'office politics' or on-going negative
discussions.
Learn to enjoy silence & nature, while respecting what the
earth has to offer, including new friends.
