Mineral King Canyon is located in the sub alpine canyons of Sequoia National Park. The Mineral King Road turn off of Hwy 198, is just past the town of Three Rivers near the southern portion of the park. The majority of the 25 miles long road is paved, but there are some sections that are gravel. This road closes for the winter, usually in November & remains closed until the snow melts off in late Spring, April or May. Mineral King, plus its historic cabin community, Silver City CA are now listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Backpackers topo map of the region is helpful for day hikes or overnights in the high Sierra Wilderness. See Mineral King Map by Tom Harrison
