Backpackers should
plan their routes ahead & try to ead over to Mineral
King. It is a 25 mile long VERY winding road & this
place is very beautiful, tucked way way back there & well
worth the drive. Hiking is amazing as you can park at 8000-9000'
elevations & be up over a 11,000' pass to serene lakes in
little time. Great trailhead!!!

Camping near the National Parks
The National Park does not allow open car camping on the backroads.
Nearby remote camping options are the Sequoia
National Forest....a small section is located just next door,
sandwiched in between Kings Cyn & Sequoia National Parks,
featuring Jennie Lakes & Monarch Wilderness. If you have the time, check out Big Meadows Rd #14S11 - off the main Sequoia Highway, for the best car camping options in the region. Not only does this area have horse camping, but developed Campgrounds have toilets & there is wonderful dispersed camping the further back you drive - twelve miles to the end of the pavement. Secluded camping near Sequoia National Park - it can happen.
If you wanna avoid most of the regular parks crowds & could
care less about big trees, head over to Mineral
King. It is a 25 mile long, VERY winding road & if
you go down there 'just for the day' you'll be sorry. Plan to
stay at least one over night back here, if not two....as this place is very
beautiful, tucked way way back there & well worth the drive.
Hiking is amazing. You can park at 8000-9000' elevations &
be up over a 11,000' pass to serene lakes in little time. Backpackers
love it.
