This area is considered the 'high desert' as opposed to the lower Palm Springs desert below. It is home to joshua trees, giant boulders and many new desert homes. The downtown business strip is the main highway which runs through the center of town. The Morongo earthquake fault runs thru Morongo Canyon causing water from the surrounding mountains to form marsh habitat along Big Morongo Creek.
