Mecca Hills County Park (Mecca Hills Wilderness) is a popular desert park south of Palm Springs, CA. Located at the end of Painted Canyon Road, off of Box Canyon Road. This low desert region has an elevation below sea level, located between the Salton Sea and Joshua Tree National Park, and is full of unique geological finds. Slot canyons, washes, mud caves, hiking trails and primitive camping.

The actual town is nothing more than a gas station mini-market place, maybe a taco shop if you're lucky. Mostly residential. Mecca is a small, agricultural community on the north side of the Salton Sea, in between Anza Borrego Desert and Joshua Tree Park. FREE CAMPING on Box Canyon Road, just off Interstate 10 in the southern California desert.
