The sparse oak & pine trees around the Isabella Reservoir may be the only shade you will find in the summer. This place can get pretty sweltering in the later summer months & crowded too. But that is what a dip in the lake is for, right? Shady big pine forest & more seclusion are just on top of the hills - near the small community of Alta Sierra, way up behind Wofford Heights. Sugarloaf Ridge (24S15) is an excellent back road scenic drive. Head deep into the Sequoia National Forest to get away from the masses & camp in the quiet forest, overlooking the Lake Isabella & Kern River Valley.
