Backpackers should
plan their routes ahead & try to ead over to Mineral
King. It is a 25 mile long VERY winding road & this
place is very beautiful, tucked way way back there & well
worth the drive. Hiking is amazing as you can park at 8000-9000'
elevations & be up over a 11,000' pass to serene lakes in
little time. Great trailhead!!!

Camping
The National Park does not allow open car camping on the backroads.
Other remote camping options are the Sequoia
National Forest. A small section is located just next door,
sandwhiched in between Kings Cyn & Sequoia National Parks,
featuring Jennie Lakes & Monarch Wilderness. If you have the time, check out Big Meadows Rd #14S11 - off the main Sequoia Highway , for the very best camping options. Not only does it have horse camping areas, but developed Campgrounds with nathrooms & wonderful dispersed camping. A twelve mile stretch of it!
If ya wanna avoid most of the regular parks crowds & could
care less about the big trees, head over to Mineral
King. It is a 25 mile long VERY winding road & if
you go down there 'just for the day' you'll be sorry. Plan to
stay atleast one over night, if not two....as this place is very
beautiful, tucked way way back there & well worth the drive.
Hiking is amazing. You can park at 8000-9000' elevations &
be up over a 11,000' pass to serene lakes in little time. Backpackers
love it.
