Backpackers should
plan their routes ahead & try to ead over to Mineral
King. It is a 25 mile long VERY winding road & this
place is very beautiful, tucked way way back there & well
worth the drive. Hiking is amazing as you can park at 8000-9000'
elevations & be up over a 11,000' pass to serene lakes in
little time. Great trailhead!!!

Primitive Camping
The National Park does not allow open car camping on the backroads. Other remote camping options are the Sequoia National Forest. A small section is located just next door, sandwhiched in between Kings Cyn & Sequoia National Parks, featuring Jennie Lakes & Monarch Wilderness.
If ya wanna avoid most of the regular parks crowds & could care less about the big trees, head over to Mineral King. It is a 25 mile long VERY winding road & if you go down there 'just for the day' you'll be sorry. Plan to stay atleast one over night, if not two....as this place is very beautiful, tucked way way back there & well worth the drive. Hiking is amazing as you can park at 8000-9000' elevations & be up over a 11,000' pass to serene lakes in little time. Backpackers love it.
Hiking
FOOTBRIDGE HIKE: in the Mineral King Area -Great half day hike down to the Kaweah River. A cool small wooden bridge down there & the trail leads off into a number of great backpacking destinations.
