The Highway 395 corridor runs thru the Owens Valley & ancient lava beds line the highway. Big Pine is just south of Bishop, CA. The Inyo National Forest encompasses the region. Sierra Nevada range to the west & the Inyo mountains on the east, with NV deserts beyond that. This rugged canyon (pictured above) is called Goodale Creek, and it's just south of Big Pine off the highway a few miles. There is a developed Goodale Campground nearby, as well as numerous primitive (free) camping sites, some might require a high clearance vehicle. Maybe some good fishing tucked way back here!
